Questions about race and justice are the themes of this unit. We'll read Countee Cullen's poem "The Incident," perhaps watch the movie A Time to Kill (based on John Grisham's novel) and read the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. We'll also take a look at current racial issues that face Americans today.

Scrapbooking project

1. Make a scrapbook that Scout might have kept.

2. include items that are either mentioned directly or referred to in the novel.

3. Be creative…use your imagination!

4. You must have a minimum of ten (10) items in your scrapbook.

5. Each item must have an accompanying full paragraph which explains why you have chosen that item and which states what the inclusion of that item reveals about Scout’s character.

6. This isn’t a hard assignment, but does require some thought and imagination. I am looking forward to reading some wonderfully interesting and diverse scrapbooks!
